loop cycles Loop cycles is in many ways a documentation of a series of performances acted out on the earthwork scupture used in flash crash. The video was created using a wireless toy video camera mounted to a radio controlled model racecar, which traveled around the dirt track. The earthwork/racetrack was used on numerous occasions as both a material focused installation and as a performance stage. The video is a collage of several different race sequences, and is itself a fully realized piece. The installation that is its source rose not only from our mutual interests, but from our disparate art practices and conceptual concerns. Chief among these is our shared desire for an art practice that could sustain a level of intelligence and complexity while simultaneously being entertaining and fun. The circular pathway of the track provides a site for a hermeneutic study of forces and relationships between objects as spaces. Through a rotation a center is defined, and through its definition distances can be measured. In our images as in the motion of sub-atomic particles, uncertainty is dominant. |
